Done Lists; An Alternative to To-Do Lists
If you’re at all like me - which is badass and you should be proud of that first and foremost - then getting distracted is a default setting. I think of my drive to be a tv that decides when it’s going to change the channel on its own. While I’ve lost the remote. People tell me I have to try using to do lists. I have tried and always fail. It’s out of my control, you see. I have this thing called creative distraction syndrome or CDs. It’s real trust me, I’m not a doctor.
For example I’ll pick up around the house and find some paints I forgot about. Out of sight out of mind, am I right. Then I spend the next few hours painting. CDs take over and then I’m telling myself “There’s always tomorrow’s to do list.” . For me it’s almost impossible not to ride that wave.
I’m not even mad though because it’s what I wanted to do I just didn’t realize that until I found the paints. Now how are you supposed to plan for that. In response to the self prognosis i make done list instead, doctors orders. Done lists are list of what I accomplish over the day to recap and reflect upon. Focusing on your day of experiences promotes a healthy memory and is good for relieving stress.
Consider this. The move shifts perspective from the idea of trying to control where you go next to paying attention where you are heading right now. Adapting to what needs to be done in a given day, can change how you attack your day. Think of life as a river - there is current to life, and if you take the time to reflect on experiences with a done list than you will find it easier to flow with and adapt to surprises.
Like for example, here’s what I have so far for today’s
Today I did;
